Happy birthday baby!

Baby? No, not so much anymore! A two year old! A walking, talking, dancing, climbing, happy two year old! Yowza!

So much to say yet I've completely forgotten almost all of what I've been meaning to write down!
Lochlan is the most amazing little boy I know and I think, will ever know. He is such a delight. He absolutely LOVES to dance. His favourite song is "Tonight is the night" by Outasight. He gets his arms going and gosh it's so stinkin' cute! (see previous post for evidence!) He break dances (falls on the ground and gets back up and even in the car he loves to "dance." Well okay, wiggle and wave his arms and have this huge grin on his face. He'll say, "Abby, dance!" And even request to hear songs.

And the boy has some manners! Last week, I sneezed and I heard this little "bless you." Really? *heart melts*

For his birthday this year, (pics to come) we went to the park to start with the kids. Lochlan absolutely loves being outside so I thought where better to be to celebrate his birthday than outside! He ran around that playground, went for a swing, then another swing, yet another....slid down a few slides, saw the ducks, played in the sand, and just kept running and giggling.

Afterwards, we went back to our house where Rob's mom and Caelyn, Dee & Cole had decorated for us. (THANK YOU!) and had all the party favors ready to go. (Beta fish complete with the bowl, fish food, the little colourful rocks, and some greenery. ("weeds") Thank you to Kirstie for the idea and for getting them.

So we had a visit and a BBQ of hotdogs, no scratch that - ginormous hotdogs, and hamburgers, and potato salad and a pasta salad. Just  your classic BBQ meal. And chippies of course and cake.

Yes, the cake. Lochlan tried to blow out the candles....hee hee. He had to have a little help. But he certainly tried! I cut up the cake and handed it out, and a present was given to Loch and wouldn't you know it, I totally forgot to give him his cake!!!! So now, that's 2 birthdays in a row, he hasn't had a piece of his own cake!!! (Last year he was too young and didn't care about the cake - we tried but he just wasn't interested!)

So I thought that was pretty fuuny. Sorry buddy! I'm sure you'll make up for it in years to come. Actually, Abby was all excited about her piece and she didn't even eat hers. No interest. Not a cake fan I guess.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate Lochlan's birthday. Later that evening, we went to a wedding reception. We took Abby & Loch with us. They were so excited to be dancing that Loch turned to run back to the dance floor, and Abby was running back the other way, and they collided. BIG goose egg. HUGE! Scared me somethin' good. There were lots of little ones running around and it made me very nervous. Especially after that!

But that didn't slow Lochlan down. He continued to run around and dance his little heart out and to climb the stairs on the stage and scoot himself down again, and to run around again....It was definitely time to go home. It was pretty exhausting chasing after him. Couldn't he just stay in one spot????!!

Um no.

Our kids have never been ones to just chill. They are super busy and interested.

So that was bonk #1. Oh yes, there was another one.

Tuesday night, I was preparing supper and Lochlan kept trying to help me cook. He likes to push the chair over to the stove and stand up on it. Yes - good times! I kept putting him back down. I even took him and sat him on the naughty step and he sat there for a minute or so. (surprisingly he actually sat there!) But that was a game to him and he was right back to getting up on the chair. Well, I was just about to put him back down, when NOSE DIVE - he fell head first into the floor. I screamed. Yes I screamed. Thankfully, he cried right away. He didn't get a huge goose egg like the one on Saturday night but he definitely bumped it hard. Right on the top on his forehead in the center. Geez Louise!

I was nervous about leaving him with a new sitter who was set to arrive any minute. But he was okay. Thank God. And I asked her to check on him after he was sleeping.

I would like to take him to see the nurses and doctors in the NICU but I think I'll wait until his bruises go away!!! Sheesh!

I have recently become a guest blogger for http://www.preemiebabies101.com/ My first post is yet to come but please do check out the website. It is a great resource for parents of preemies - especially those who are just beginning this crazy journey.

Bust a move and special infant clinic

Lochlan had his appointment with the Special Infant Development clinic last week. He continues to astound them. In fact, the speech therapist said that he was using the 24 month checklist by mistake and that he was passing it with flying colours! (He should have been using the 18month checklist!!!) And that he is considered "advanced." Go LOCHLAN!!!! We already knew though that he is doing superb in the language department. The amount of words he uses and how he communicates is so amazing. He is still on the list for speech program until after junior kindergarten since he was referred way back when. Because he is on the list, we could bypass the wait and all it would take to see someone about any issues would be to pick up the phone. So I decided to keep him on the list just in case there is an issue over the next few years. I'd hate to take him off and then discover an issue and then need to be placed on a waiting list.

Loch is now 20lbs, 1 3/4 ounces. So nice to finally have him officially over 20lbs!!! Still so small. My goodness our nephew towers over him and they are about the same age.  But good things come in small packages isn't that what they say!!!

The doctor did say that he has low tone in his body and that he still walks (or runs - ha ha) with his arms up for balance and goes up on his toes a bit when he walks. But she said he is still quite a small boy and it's to be expected.

He is supposed to be seeing Dr. Arthur this month for his eyes. (just a checkup) and then Dr. Flavin his respiratory doctor next month as well as the ear nose and throat doctor where we will find out if he needs to have surgery to put tubes in his ears to drain the excess fluid. Praying he doesn't!

Here is a pic from Easter. Since my iPod has been broken I haven't been able to take regular pictures. Must get a camera!!!!!!  (So this was taken with Rob's iPhone) How cute are they?!

And of course Princess Abby!!! (with her jammies underneath!)

And the boy and girl have some moves!!! For your viewing pleasure:

Follow up

It's so very nice to home and back into our routine.  When Lochlan came home from the hospital he was very excited. He immediately went to the door to our basement and said "downstairs?" He wanted to go to the toy room! And we did. He enjoyed playing with many many toys and hamming it up for Auntie Noni.

It actually took him a little bit to get his legs back if you will. He'd been in the crib and didn't have too many chances to stretch his legs. So he was walking kinda funny for a few days. He had to continue his antibiotics for 3 days, 3 times a day. He didn't mind the taste of it. It was the Tami-flu that he didn't like very much. Turns out Lochlan had RSV in addition to pneumonia but he didn't have the flu. They had given him the Tami-flu as a precaution since the tests took a few days to come back. But he still had to finish the meds. It is a bit frustrating that he didn't qualify for the RSV shots this year and ended up getting RSV. Although the doctor did say that two babies ended up getting RSV even though they got the shot. So we'll never know.

We went to see Dr. Moore, his pediatrician on Monday. We were fortunate to have a pre-scheduled appointment which could also be used as a follow up from the hospital stay. Lochlan was VERY skittish about the nurse coming near him. We've never had a problem weighing him and that day, he would have none of it. It took A LOT of persuasion to get him to sit on the scale. A LOT! I ended up giving him a tape measure to hold and sang him "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." He weighed in at 19lbs, 15 3/4 ounces. A quarter of an ounce away from 20lbs!!!! Woo-hoo! He has slowed down in his weight gain I will say that. But he is sooo busy! Always on the move running and dancing and going up and down stairs and climbing and oh my goodness he's so busy. Plus being sick set him back since he wasn't really eating very much. Understandably so. I'm okay with him being 20lbs. Dr. Moore is okay with him being 20lbs. He's still on the growth curve chart. He was 1lb, 12oz when he was born. I think gaining 19 lbs is a pretty good accomplishment.  And he's surpassing any expectation developmentally. He is amazing.

They measure his height and I can't remember if he was just shy of 30 inches or 31 inches. Eek. I'm usually really good at remembering. Probably had something to do with the fact that he was crying and kicking and screaming and trying to get back into my arms!!! Yeah, probably.

I do think she said he was just shy of 31 inches. So I'll go with that! I know he no longer fits in his 12 month jammies. He wears the 18 months ones now. Just for the length. He still wears 12 month shirts and pants.

Our weather has been uncharacteristically warm the past week. Like we're talking early summer weather. We went from winter right to summer. Crazy. It's been super nice to be able to wear shorts and t-shirts and sandals. But really? It's not supposed to happen for at least another couple of months. It's gone as high as 24 degrees I think. The normal max high is 12! So we've been smashing records set back in the 1970s. Which the other day was double the record high. It's supposed to go back down to a high of 8 tomorrow. And someone was saying there's a chance to flurries next week. Go figure!

Anyway, I had to go out and buy Lochlan and Abby some shorts and t-shirts due to the warm temperatures. I only bought Loch one pair of shorts. I had a feeling this nice weather wouldn't be here to stay. No sense in spending money when you don't need to!!!

Oh, before I go, I need to tell you about a super cute thing that happened a week or so before Loch went into the hospital. He had closed the door and the door handle hit Abby in the face and Abby of course got upset and came running to me. So I told Lochlan that he'd hurt Abby and said: "What do you say?" He goes: "Sorry!"

He gets it. And it warmed both our hearts.

Stay tuned for some super cool dance moves in the next post I finally captured on video.
